Tea Cakes
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp soda disolved in
1/4 cup buttermilk
1/2 cup shortening
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt
Flour (mix) to make stiff dough, roll and cut with biscuit cutter. Bake in moderate oven.
Date Loaf
2 cup sugar
1 cup canned milk
1 cup dates
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup nuts
Cook milk and sugar until it forms a firm ball, add dates and recook until it forms a ball in cold water.
Let cool, then add vanilla and nuts. Beat until firm enough to roll in wet cloth and chill. Maybe rolled in crushed nuts or coconut.
